The City Adventurers found themselves transported back in time to 1872. We were on board a paddle-wheel steamboat called the River Queen, travelling down the Mississippi. This would not be a relaxing journey, as, when a crime was committed, the Captain immediately called for our help as private investigators.
It turned out a successful businessman had been carrying documents of inestimable value and they had now gone missing. They must have been taken by someone onboard. We had eight possible suspects to question.
Would we be able to track down the perpetrator before the riverboat docked in New Orleans? Of course we would!
How to play
Exit: The Game – Theft on the Mississippi is a co-op game where players against the clock to decipher a number of puzzles and solve the crime.
The box contains 8 suspect cards and tokens, 17 riddle cards, 30 Answer cards and 30 Help cards, plus 3 “strange items” and a mini poster of the scene of the crime. There is also a booklet, with a blurb introducing you to the scenario and instructions on how to play the game, and a decoder wheel.
Start by questioning one of the suspects (solving a puzzle). Once you have an answer, align the suspected code using the circular coding wheel. If you are right, the wheel will give you the next cards to take from the deck. If you are wrong, you will need to try again. And if you are really stuck, use the Help cards. These are marked with the puzzle symbol and arranged in order from hint to solution.
Conclusion
This game was easy to follow and a lot of fun. The only down side was the destruction. This game uses a lot of components, not just the ones listed as inside the box. Spoiler alert, even the box is a component. After folding cutting and generally destroying the game it would be difficult to play again. (Or you could decide to use the hint cards to give you the answer and keep the game intact).
