Elixir Of Life – Review

The City Adventurers were heading back to school, but not for a school reunion.

And this was no ordinary school….This was a magical school!

Our help was needed to retrieve a magic potion before it fell into the wrong hands. With wands at ready, we set off for London Bridge and Escape Rooms

The Plot

Alchemist Nicolas Flamel, said to be the creator of the Elixir of Life, had been potions professor at the educational establishment. His legendary elixir had incredible powers, and made the drinker functionally immortal as long as it is regularly ingested.

Unfortunately, rumour had it that the professor had gone mad for power and eternal life. The headmaster had taken possession of the elixir, but due to the danger, he had hidden it somewhere in the school, just before going missing!

The headmaster, being a quirky, but deeply secretive and intelligent individual, had placed numerous protective measures on the elixir.

Now someone had to retrieve the potion before the mad professor could take it back. And, as is usual in these assignments, they would only have one hour to do so.

Review – ELIXIR OF LIFE

We arrived at Escape Rooms, a short walk from London Bridge Station and, after a game briefing, were led downstairs to the escape room. Although the game is designed for 3 to 6 players, we were playing as a group of 2.

This is a magical themed escape room where, you’ve guessed it, you have to retrieve the missing Elixir of Life.

We entered the game via the headmasters office. Nicely decorated as a professors study and began our search for the elixir. There are sign posts to help you work out which items relate to which puzzles. As you complete the puzzles, something “magical” happens that leads you along your quest.

There were a range of different puzzles throughout the game. Most were straightforward but there were a couple of puzzles we struggled with. One due to the prop, which I think has since been changed and another puzzle that involved smelling items.

My teammate is unable to smell, so the latter puzzle was always going to be difficult. We discovered afterwards that there are hints and a work around available. At the time we didn’t know that and so it was down to me to try and work things out.

The room is designed for 3 to 6 players and there is a puzzle that requires three of you to cast a spell at the same time. As we were playing as a pair, we managed to find a third wand and one of us had to cast two spells at once.

We had fun playing the game. Nothing too taxing but an enjoyable experience.

The City Adventurers were kindly invited to test the latest escape room at Escape Rooms in London Bridge. This did not influence our review of the room.
