The Plot
The Mad Hatter is in trouble. Save him from the Queen of Hearts without losing your heads. Step into Wonderland, where the Hatter has been accused of stealing the Queen’s Tarts. With Alice nowhere to be seen, it’s time for you to fill her shoes. You find yourself at the Hatter’s cottage. The table is set but no one is around. A sign on the lawn reads ‘Tea Party Cancelled by Royal Decree’. Curiouser and curiouser…
Find and return the Queen’s Tarts in 60 minutes, or it’s off with the Hatter’s head. Chop chop. Tumble down the rabbit hole in this Alice themed escape room.

As members of the Association for Group Travel Organisers, The City adventurers were invited to take part in an AGTO Eastern Region team-building event at Escape Hunt. Our mission was to find some missing cakes in time to stop the Mad Hatter losing his head.
When we entered the room we found ourselves outside the Mad Hatters front garden, in front of the Mad Hatters house. There was a small dining table laid for the Queen’s tea party and a mysterious signpost. The gate to the garden was locked, so we knew this was a two room game, albeit with the second room clearly visible from the start.
Alice in Puzzleland is quite a tactile experience, with emphasis on observation. There are linear and nonlinear elements to the game. There was quite a lot to do within the hour even for five of us. Nothing too hard, but nothing too easy either, and plenty that involved collaboration. Puzzle solutions lead to magical outcomes. We did not find any padlocks and only used one key during the entire game.
Being heavily Wonderland themed, hints had to be requested by ringing a bell that summons the Cheshire Cat. The hints were delivered clearly enabling us all to hear them – a bonus for those of us who struggle.
As an adult only group we loved playing this game and completed our mission in 55 minutes.

Here is a guest blog by Jackie Ames, Regional Secretary, of our adventure.
The Eastern Region committee recently had a great time, when they went off for an escape room
adventure, in central London. Unfortunately one of the team, had to drop out due to another commitment, but the rest made their way to Escape Hunt in Oxford St., which is centrally situated, right opposite the Dean St exit of the Elizabeth Line.
We received our briefing, signed the waiver and made our way into Wonderland, where someone
had stolen the Queen’s tarts and she was threatening to cut off heads! Following the clues – some
visual and others more cerebral, we unlocked the various parts of the puzzle and managed to open
the **spoiler**, where the tarts were hidden, just under 5 minutes before being ‘locked in’!
We were congratulated by the staff, and lined up for a team photo, before heading off to the second
part of the day – lunch!
We’d booked a table at Pierre Victoire, in Dean Street, a few minutes stroll from the escape rooms.
It’s a delightful French bistro, with an excellent value set lunch. Ideal for smaller groups. There is a
mouthwatering selection to choose from including classics like French onion soup, escargot and
baked Camembert but also including others such as soft shell crab with Asian veg – and that’s just
the starters!
We had the most enjoyable time, and after our leisurely lunch, we headed off in different directions,
to shop/head home.
If you fancy taking a group to the escape rooms, they have several scenarios running, and each
room takes a maximum of 6 people. The rooms are in Boom Box, which also houses indoor crazy
golf, darts, axe throwing, shuffleboard, pool and other games, so plenty for folks to choose from, if
they don’t want to take part in the escape rooms – or to combine for a multi activity day. The more
people the cheaper it gets, and there are discounts for early in the day bookings and for over 60s. A
fun way to spend some time together as the weather changes.
