Emerald Phantom – Escape room review

We found ourselves meandering down the winding streets of London towards a secret location we had visited 7 years ago. The last time we had ventured this way it had been getting dark, with the market stalls packing up for the night. This time it was a bright Sunday morning and the area was bustling. Quite a change.

Once again we found ourselves almost at the end of the road, outside an unremarkable grey door. Our leader had been told to press the doorbell and say the secret phrase to gain entry. Since our last visit a building had been constructed in the loading bay area, so instead, we were lead around a yard, to the entrance of an old film studio. Yes, we had returned to the headquarters of ‘Secret Studio’.

The Plot

A diva, a director and a deputy stage manager desperately need your help to investigate a peculiar theft – what is happening on the set of The Emerald Phantom?

The Emerald Phantom

We were back in the Secret Studio film studio to solve another mystery. Secret Studio is meant to be haunted, and contain a few surprises. While their first game had a mild scare, this game had no scary surprises at all.

We were not offered a choice of difficulty, unlike the last time when we opted for ‘Impossibly Difficult’.

This time we started by stepping into the star’s dressing room. Our mission was to sneak behind the scenes and work out what – or who – the Emerald Phantom really was.

To help us go undercover, we were all given new identities. Our characters were members of the cast in the latest movie. As we entered the dressing room we spotted our costumes and script, although it turned out we did not need to dress in character nor act the parts. (Although some of us did anyway).

We split up and started searching. The set and props conjured up a movie production from yesteryear including retro technology. There is a signpost to the first puzzle but after that the game is non linear.

We hit our stride quickly and worked our way through the variety of puzzles. Some puzzles required team work across the room. Along the way we discovered more about the movie and found ourselves investigating the cast of characters/suspects as we searched for the answers.

Did we find the Emerald Phantom and solve the mystery?

Of course we did. We even completed this game in our best time ever !

A fun game, that is probably doable with a smaller or less experienced team.
