It took longer than the City Adventurers were expecting to make our way to Hatfield. A lot of country roads through Essex were flooded and, after driving through numerous “new fords” that weren’t supposed to be there, we found a lot of roads ahead had been closed by the police. Undaunted we headed out to Romford and picked up the M25 motorway for our journey to the Mercure Hatfield Oak Hotel.
We were there to celebrate the Christmas party of Benton’s Department Store. Arthur Benton, the store’s owner, was celebrating his birthday with a lavish Christmas party for employees and friends. He was expected to make his usual appearance, dressed as Santa, and hand out presents to all during the meal. This year, as well as handing around gifts, Arthur planned to make a big announcement.
We gathered in the bar and met some of Arthur’s staff before heading to the dining room.
As soon as everyone was seated, there was a shock announcement……
Arthur Benton would not be joining us as he had been murdered!
Strangled in his own Grotto!
Yes the City Adventurers were on another mission. This time we were going to find out who saw someone killing Santa Claus.
This was another Murder 57 murder mystery dinner, with overnight stay.
Did we work out the suspects secrets? Yes we did. Did we successfully work out the murderer and their motive…….well no. Having worked out the correct murderer a couple of us dismissed them and picked the wrong suspect. And the couple of us that stayed with the right suspect got the motive slightly wrong. So no prizes for the City Adventurers again 🙁
No matter. We still had a fantastic night out with a fantastic table of sleuths.
City adventurers are looking forward to the next one.
