I know I hadn&#8217;t until\u00a0 a group of us went there in search of fossils.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Kimmeridge is a small coastal village that enjoys international recognition due to the fossils that commonly occur throughout the Kimmeridge Clay. This state of the art museum was created by famous fossil hunter and expert Steve Etches MBE.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_3434\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-3434\" style=\"width: 3648px\" class=\"wp-caption alignnone\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-3434\" src=\"https:\/\/invitation2events.co.uk\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/09\/img_9185.jpg\" alt=\"Steve Etches with Catherine Skeggs\" width=\"3648\" height=\"2736\" \/><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-3434\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Steve Etches with Catherine Skeggs<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>Steve spent\u00a0years combing the coast for ammonites and dinosaur bones. He collected so many that a \u00a35m, world-class museum had to be built to house them all.<\/p>\n<p>The Etches Collection: Museum of Jurassic Marine Life opened in 2016. It is a new purpose built museum\u00a0 about a mile from the beach. It contains a magnificent collection of around 2,500 specimens. The permanent home for the collection is managed by a\u00a0 trust, that was created to hold the finds for the nation.
