{"id":3307,"date":"2018-09-02T04:05:45","date_gmt":"2018-09-02T03:05:45","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/invitation2events.co.uk\/blog\/?p=3307"},"modified":"2023-04-14T15:17:25","modified_gmt":"2023-04-14T15:17:25","slug":"on-a-hunt-for-modern-art-around-bruges","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/invitation2events.co.uk\/blog\/?p=3307","title":{"rendered":"On a hunt for modern art around Bruges"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>This summer we visited the UNESCO World Heritage City of Bruges.\u00a0On the way to our hotel, we passed one of the large art installations currently situated on the canals.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_3420\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-3420\" style=\"width: 3872px\" class=\"wp-caption alignnone\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-3420\" src=\"https:\/\/invitation2events.co.uk\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/09\/dsc_3771.jpg\" alt=\"THE FLOATING ISLAND : Photo by Juliamaud\" width=\"3872\" height=\"2592\" \/><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-3420\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">THE FLOATING ISLAND : Photo by Juliamaud<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<div id=\"content-teaser\">\n<h2>Large art installations &#8211; What&#8217;s that all about?<\/h2>\n<p>From\u00a05 May to 16 September 2018\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/triennalebrugge.be\/en\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Triennial Bruges 2018<\/a>\u00a0is taking place.\u00a0\u00a0Held once\u00a0every three years an artistic route spreads across the city centre.\u00a0 Contemporary artists and architects from around the world are asked to contribute.<\/p>\n<p>This time the theme is today&#8217;s liquid society. It centers around the constant change in cities, how society handles such change, social issues and global warming.<\/p>\n<h3>Walking Bruges art trail<\/h3>\n<p>So we spent the next couple of days on a treasure hunt searching for the 15\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/triennalebrugge.be\/en\/programma\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">works of art<\/a>.\u00a0 We started by picking up a\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/triennalebrugge.be\/assets\/img\/general\/2018-Triennale-Kaart-final-CMYK_MEI.pdf\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">map<\/a>\u00a0then set off on foot to explore the city.<\/p>\n<p>Near the statue of Jan Van Eyck we found the Bruges Whale. Officially it is called the\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/triennalebrugge.be\/en\/installation\/studiokca-skyscraper-the-bruges-whale\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Skyscraper<\/a>\u00a0.\u00a0Made from 5 tonnes of plastic waste pulled out of the ocean, it is a 4-storey whale that serves as a physical reminder why need need to stop polluting our oceans.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_3321\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-3321\" style=\"width: 3872px\" class=\"wp-caption alignnone\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-3321\" src=\"https:\/\/invitation2events.co.uk\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/06\/dsc_3744.jpg\" alt=\"Skyscraper \/ the Bruges Whale : Photo by Juliamaud\" width=\"3872\" height=\"2592\" \/><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-3321\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Skyscraper \/ the Bruges Whale : Photo by Juliamaud<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>The route showed us a lot more of the city than we expected as we searched for the art work. Try it for yourself, but hurry.
